OCSD5 2013-14 District Teacher of the Year & Finalists

OCSD5 Announces School & District Teachers of the Year for 2013-14

    Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five recently held its Opening Session to kick-off the 2013-2014 school year. During the opening session, which had as its theme “Fit To The Core”, the district announced its participation in the Common Core State Standard as well as its commitment to developing fit bodies and minds for students. In addition, the district introduced its school Teachers of the Year, the District Teacher of the Year finalists and the 2013-2014 District Teacher of the Year.

    The school Teachers of the Year are as follows: Nyoka Woods, Bethune-Bowman Middle/High School; Kinyatta Seward, Rivelon Elementary School; Tonya Thomas, Mellichamp Elementary School; Ayenne Smith, Marshall Elementary School; Jane Junquet, Sheridan Elementary School; Latanza Garvin, Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School; Christopher Glover, Nelson C. Nix Education Center; Karen Wimberly, Bethune-Bowman Elementary School; Charles Outen, R.E. Howard Middle School; William Burgess, Brookdale Elementary School; Mary Robinson, Whittaker Elementary School; Teresa Brown, The Technology Center; Frances Morant, Dover Elementary School; Deedra Wright, North Middle/High School; Lynette Milhouse, W.J. Clark Middle School; and Jordan Knight, High School for Health Professions.
    The 2013-2014 OCSD5 District Teacher Finalists are: Christopher Glover, Nelson C. Nix Education Center; and Deedra Wright, North Middle/High School.
    The 2013-2014 OCSD5 District Teacher of the Year is: William Burgess, Brookdale Elementary School. Opening Session was a big success and definitely geared everyone working in the district up for a great school year. The year may be different, but the goal remains the same.
    “Our primary goal remains the same, which is to build a world-class school system the entire Orangeburg community can be proud of,” Wilson said. “Our belief has been and will continue to be that we have to build a school system that improves student outcomes and helps children reach their full potential and helps them to be the best they can be in the classroom and in life.”
    “Our results, while promising, tell us there is still much work to be done, and provides us with a new opportunity to succeed. We are on our way to the top.”
