Principal's Corner

Mrs. Bowman's Message

My name is Rena Bowman, and I am the proud principal of Rivelon Elementary School. I have been married for twenty-four years, and I have two children.  I have been in education for about twenty-two years, and I still love it! I have taught for a total of ten of those years and worked in administration for the remainder years. My roles in administration have been to serve in the capacity of Administrative Assistant, Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Principal and Principal.  I have served fifteen years in Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five schools.  Although, I am the new principal at Rivelon, as you can see, I am not new to education, the community or administration.

I was educated in the Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five schools. I received my Bachelor of Science from Claflin University in 1988. Additionally, I have two master’ degrees in Urban Education and Educational Administration from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Massachusetts and Charleston Southern University in Charleston, SC.  Also, I have an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, SC. I am currently working on my Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at South Carolina State University.

My school goals are to improve student performance, increase teacher capacity, and strengthen school- community relationships. Our school motto is, “One Team, One Dream: Growing Students for a Better Tomorrow”. We feel confident that we can grow strong readers and writers to become leaders in their communities to yield higher results on the school report card to transform into a high performing school and to develop a school culture where “teaching and learning” is the “core” of the school’s foundation.

Because I believe in learning, my future plans as an educator include but are not limited to, the following: (1) Working in higher education; (2) Serving as Provost at a college; and writing a children’s book. It is my desire to always strive to learn so that I can grow as an administrator.
